University life is a big adventure whether you’re just starting out or heading into another year. And while course choices and timetables matter, one of the biggest decisions you’ll make is where to live.
And the first question is do you want to live with others or in your own flat? Lots of students choose to live alone, so let’s explore why a studio flat could be your best bet.
1️⃣ First off, you get all the privacy you need. In a studio, you’ve got your own space, no sharing a bathroom or the remote control! Whether you’re having a long shower, or you just want to binge your favourite show, you’ve got a space that’s 100% yours.
2️⃣ You never have to share your belongings. Got a new air fryer or fancy coffee machine? No problem! Just add it to your private kitchen countertop, safe in the knowledge that no one else will be using it. Our top tip… check out how much cupboard storage you get in your studio’s kitchen too. We love CODE Student Accommodation where their practical studio kitchen features four full sized cupboards and drawer space.
3️⃣ A studio gives you a calm, cosy base where you can settle in at your own pace. University can be overwhelming but a studio is perfect when you want to shut out the noise. It’s actually a good choice for Freshers too, while trying to adjust to a new city, new people and new responsibilities.
4️⃣ Need to get serious about revising for exams or finishing a dissertation? Then one of the best perks of a studio is they often have their own desk area. Our top tip for studio study spaces… find an accommodation provider with wall mounted TVs. It keeps the desk clear and you can always use it as a monitor or add another screen!
5️⃣ You’ll still have options for socialising. Many accommodation places have communal areas, free events and on-site gym, meaning you’re never far from meeting friendly faces. Another tip is to check out the size of these facilities versus the number of students. For example, in CODE Fairfax Street in Coventry they have communal spaces the same size as 7.5 tennis courts! Now that’s impressive.
6️⃣ And finally, for your peace of mind, studios are great options for security. Your flat will have it’s own key and many places have turnstiles or fob-accessed gates to get into the complex. Our final tip… look for somewhere with round-the-clock security as this gives you peace of mind, while giving you the freedom to come and go as you please.
Whether you’re new to uni or heading back, a studio just makes sense. Let’s be honest – once you’ve lived in a studio, it’s hard to go back.
