Did you know CODE has a Theatre right on its doorstep perfect for great value evening entertainment !
Upstairs At The Western is Leicester’s pub theatre above Steamin’ Billy’s The Western on Western Road, just down from CODE and opposite the Co-Op. The theatre is a not-for-profit social enterprise owned by David Bell, Jess Richard and Jessamyn Witthaus, and staffed by volunteers. It is fully equipped arts venue with 2-3 shows on each week from September through to June and programmes fringe style drama, poetry, comedy, music and film. Most shows start around 7.30pm to 8.00pm and cost £8-£10 with a £2 discount for people up to 21 years of age (no student ID required). A number of DMU student societies use the venue. Drinks can be taken into the auditorium. Their web site and latest what’s on guide is at www.upstairsatthewestern.com
In May 2018, a new play about Alice Hawkins is on stage for 3 nights which is especially poignant because sometime way back in the 1880’s Alice began working in the Equity Shoe Factory which has now been transformed into CODE Western Road.
